Chimney Relining

We Can Reline Your Chimney For Optimal Performance, Safety & Longevity

When most people think of chimneys, the interior is somewhat of a mysterious place. We all expect our chimney systems to work efficiently and safely, but that’s not always the case.

In fact, the mysterious interior of your chimney should be inspected annually by a professional chimney sweep that can let you know exactly what condition your chimney is in and how efficiently and how safely you can expect it to do its job.

We Know What To Look For & When To Reline

During an inspection, our technicians use a digital camera to get a close look at the inside of your entire chimney system. We pay particular attention to the mortar joints which often decay, creating voids where hot gases and fire can escape the safe confines of the flue system. During many inspections, we find that the terracotta chimney liner and mortar joints are in dire need of resurfacing or replacing.

    • Water Damage – Water is responsible for a great majority of damage we see in flue liners. Whether clay or metal, water can cause serious damage to the lining of your flue, leaving it riddled with holes and cracks and unsafe for use.

    • Glazed Creosote Deposits – Glazed creosote is the most dangerous and the most difficult to remove type of creosote. Regular cleanings and good burning practices can help keep glazed creosote at bay. Unfortunately, glazed creosote can destroy the safety and effectiveness of the liner.

    • Flue Size/Appliance Size –If your flue liner was installed with disregard to the appliance size, or if you’ve installed a new appliance that is much smaller than your old one, you will need to have a new liner installed that is of the appropriate size. Otherwise, your system will be incredibly inefficient.

    • Fuel Type – Certain flue materials are designed to handle the combustion byproducts and heat levels of certain fuels but not others. If you’ve changed fuel types, or if you’re considering it, make sure your flue is equipped to handle the new fuel. If not, you’ll need to have a new liner installed that is prepared to stand up to the byproducts and temperatures.

    • Byproduct Corrosion – The byproducts of combustion can cause serious decay and deterioration to the chimney liner if it’s not equipped to handle the type of fuel being used, or if it’s improperly maintained and rarely cleaned. If your flue liner is rusted, crumbling, cracking, or filled with gaps and holes from byproduct corrosion, we can install a new durable liner for you.

Here at Fireplace Safety Services, we install M-Flex & Stainless Steel Liners, as well as pour-in liners/resurfacing systems like HeatShield® and Ahrens.
